The polar vortex is making a return to the forecast, but the counterintuitive weather feature is nothing to fear.

Winter weather advisories have been issued in central Alaska for the Chena Hot Springs Resort area and areas along Chena Hot Springs Road east of milepost 34, with between 3 and 5 inches of snow expected.

Looking ahead to the weekend, there’s uncertainty in the forecast. Models suggest a potential for a slight chance of showers (20-30% probability), but conditions remain too far out to predict with high confidence. Residents should stay tuned to updated forecasts as the weekend approaches.

We’re officially two weeks into fall, but Mother Nature has been very hesitant to turn the page on summer.  This week, we may finally say goodbye to temperatures in the 80s and usher in some serious sweater weather.
